The flash file wont play automatically in all browsers - can be forced by right-clicking and choosing 'play'.

We have a prototype of a similar type of software - also flash based - but we only render out the changed areas. Gives some problems - specially with reflections and shadows, but loads a lot faster, and for 5x5 finished you only need 25 renderings, instead of 5^5.

Would love to show an example - but not allowed

Must admit the Herman miller version looks great.

Go an screenshot example on our website though - http://www.pixelimage.co.uk

Well this is kind of silly. Why are we all building the same thing?!

      Percy-
Why did you choose to do all the images - instead of layers? We are doing the same thing..... similar to Jonasa's solution.

Lighting and reflections are tricky - but you can do them.....

It isn't as "clean" as your rendered solution, but I don't think the developers care about quality as much as price. And trying to make a system that works on budget is our #1 priority.

Could you tell us how many machines were working for how long to create 3500 images?

Email me if you want to discuss.

I wholeheartedly agree. Its still pretty new to us, so at this point in time, we're kinda goin the simple yet bruteforce method. But believe me, I'm working on a workflow to get around that. yes reflections would be touchy, but doable. We have a 20 machine renderfarm, with probably more on the way, so we frankly can afford to go the bruteforce route if needed. rerenders are a serious pain in the neck though...... i mean really.....

As to why everyone appears to be doing this? cause great minds think alike...lol its just a logical progression in giving what the client wants...options...

Man. We got invited to the party cause the company I was at purchased about 50 of their chairs.

There was a whole group of them surrounding us. We raided their fridges and found the popsicles. Then they accosted us for being back there. And we made introductions and I drunkenly told their lead designer that his "chair wasn't worth $900. Good but not worth that kind of money." And then we got into a spat.

They offered me a job, saying "If you could design a chair more comfortable than the Aeron out of paper maiche then we will give you a job." I agreed to take him on but didn't bother on the follow-up. Too lazy...

I heard Bill Stumpf has a killer left hook, and if you let him get inside, its all over. He may be all about "Restoring Civility and Other Lost Virtues to Everyday Life," but if you mess with him, he will throw down.
