  • The Bulb

    hi
Again I made a small scene to experiment more with texturing.
Actually this is an object from my new wip scene
but I decided to make a small seperate scene of this object to practice.I tried to give dirty old look on materials except bulb. As if the bulb is newly replaced...Because I like the clean sharp reflections on glass and it adds some contrast to the old look and I like this mixture
    All your crits are welcome!

Very nice.. did you use bump or displacement on the left thing.
Can you share some details on your dirty plastic.. its excellent.
I assume the crack is modelled in.

          hi
thank you very much for your replies and nice words

the left colum is made with blend material of wood and paint with a dirt texture mask. and I used displacement. but it is very small amount of displacement. so maybe even bump can be used.

the plastic bulb head is also mix map of some colors with a dirt texture mask and on top of it another mix map of noise map again.
          with little glossy reflection.
crack is a just a simple bump.I used a concrete texture map. I just cropped and played with levels and contrast and make a new texture out of it. and then mapped.

Very nice balance, pleasing to the eye, and made me squint and get closer

Bump wouldn't work so well at a slanted angle (ie. the righthandside of the column): it works very well when it's directly lit and possibly as face-on as it can be.

Displacement on the contrary works exceedingly well as you used it, to add more high frequency detail in those "dull" areas.

                  Confrabulations again!

                  Lele

p.s.: are you planning to try and light the bulb?

                    hey thank u very much

studio-dim: u r right. that is why I used displacement. because it affect geometry too. but as I said very small amount of displacement. so someone can prefer to use bump to save some render time
                    thanks again.

beautiful image and great cg skills,
it looks like i still have a lot to learn.

on a more technical note, i think there is a Health and Safety issue with that cracked casing and the rods do not extend all the way inside to connect to the mains/power/

is that noise on the right of the bulb intentional?

I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

                              Great rendering...

                              I have an idea/request....

1- Would you be able to light this bulb up.. maybe something in a very very low Watt-age.... where the coil is quite orange/red instead of a brightly lit light bulb...

2- You may need to texture the wall a bit...

3- While you're at it and since the bulb is so close to the wall... why not make a burn mark on the wall....
