      Great Work!

How were the shop interiors modelled? Could you please share the workflow?
Would you be interested in selling the interior of the shops?

      Thanks

I second that request. Your shops are excellent. I'd definitely pay for that.

the only thing i hate about this kind of photoreal pics are the people.
the most awsome renders, you would never know it from the real thing if it wasn't for the people.

            thanks

            thanks for the comments -

The model was made to be animated so the shop interiors were a bit of a challenge. In the end I visited a massive shopping centre here in the UK and took over 300 shots, which were then edited and catergorized in photoshop.
I broke the images down into categories - In the model it was simply a matter of creating numerous planes and applying these textures to them. The shop interiors were then populated with standard omni lights with a defined fall-off range, thus creating various highlights but not affecting the overall lightng in the scene.

The screens below show this in the model - with a plane returning in to each shop, posters in the window, a few alpha mannequins, and posters on the internal walls. It kind of gives just the right look.

At the other end of the mall is a huge supermarket - I'll post an image of this tonight.

I have saved the directories of maps, and would be happy to provide these on request - They took 2 days to prepare!

Incidentally i agree about the people - although in the animation they are ok - they are the marlin variety - and sharper then rpc's which I'd never use.....

            cheers,

That would be mighty kind of you. One question though - how on earth did you get permission to take photos in a shopping mall? Covertly? Organised?

That technique looks very effective. It fooled me. How well does it hold up in an animation?

Gilpo - it holds up pretty well to be honest - the trick is having an even spread of planes near the front of the shop, in the middle, and further back. I'll try and post a link to the animation when i get time.

Tricky - indeed - At bluewater I just paced about and shot indiscriminantly. Got turfed out of a couple of shops by over-eager junior reps!
The irony is that these shops are the actual clients and are part of the scheme anyway - I just didnt have time to explain this to everyone.

                          ok!

I've organized the maps into smaller packets but they are still large files (approx 100mb each). High res maps of course. Does anyone know of a free FTP host I could use?

Infact I was going to suggest a resource pool with all shared data, like morbid angels shaders, geometry, and maps to be put in one place here for all registered users - a part o the forum where people can actually share data. Or is that too Cuban for most?

I'll host it on my ftp. Not sure how long the bandwidth will last but I'll give it a shot!

I would love for there to be a shared resource site available to registered vray users. I've been reluctant to post anything here for fear that it would end up in the warez channels. There's got to be some way of setting this up where we could tell who leaked stuff if it does get out there.

                              Just a thought.
