  • shopping in the forest

    hi all!

my latest project is a shopping center in the middle of germany in the forest. trees are a bit too repetetive an i still can not get the shrubs to be realistic. any tips for lower greens?

I guess those little blue cars are popular in Germany.

I can't help you w/ the greenery, but I would lose some of those cars, they are a bit distracting.

Are the trees/bushes 2d or 3d? If they are 3d, try just randomly rotating and scaling them. If they are 2d, well, there's not a whole lot you can do besides find more images to use.

We use onyx and will make 3-5 different 'seeds' of the same plant and randomly scatter them and then randomly rotate and scale them. We'll also make 3 or 4 variations of the same material and randomly apply it to them. Instead of using a solid color or even a texture map on the leaves, we will use a gradient ramp. It seems to give better control over color and a more varied look to the leaves. Also adding just a touch of a no-reflection specular highlight to the leaf material seems to add a certain 'something'. Good luck.

On another note, I really like your ground textures (roads, pavers, etc). Did you buy them or make them yourself?

        Hi

I think these images are close to being really nice. My suggestion would be to bring up the levels/contrast on your vegetation. At the moment they are too washed-out (probably because you are trying to hide them ) but try increasing the contrast. You should get lots of dark in there. With that I reckon the images could look pretty sorted. Ive done a sample and adjusted the top portion of the image - Its only a few minute PShop work - see what you think!

            Hi,

Yes its coming along nicely - Instinct is doing the majority of the site interface, and I've setup the libraries, and uploaded some content, as well as purchasing www.chaossquid.com.
It should be up soon - You fancy sharing anything - if so provide a link/upload and I'll put you down.

            cheers,
