  • I love this

I don't know, but 1.5 seems pretty easy to get the hang of. I've just been playing with it for 1/2 hour, and I'm loving the sun/sky. I've been stuck on 1.47 because of viz07, so this is my first time with some of these settings.

I know this isn't anything, but I'm just excited! I know it's all black and stuff, but I just like the sun/sky.

phil, try raising your sun size from the default. This is how I got it working when I was playing with the demo...

Thanks base2. I just figured that out when i read your post. I didn't play with the demo, so this is the first time for me I'm like a kid in a candy store.

That whole "comparison renders" thread got me interested in PPT, so I did this little diddy just as a test. 20minute mode/texture/render total, so it's really nothing, but really, those who say vray is complicated? They just aren't trying. I know there is a lot wrong with this. Just a quick ppt test.

Sorry Phildlight, but I just don't understand all the hype and excitement over the new Sun/sky system.
As yet, I haven't seen any examples of what makes it so much better than the standard lighting approaches that we have always used.
Is it just me? or is there more to the Sun/Sky feature I don't know about?

I'm still learning, but for me, it's the ease of setup, as you're thinking about things in real life terms. It takes (or should take) most of the guesswork out of lighting setup. You can also easly create shadow studies now. Just in general, it is a lot easier to setup IMHO...

Lukx, just rotate your sun into view in the camera view. That first one had a sun size multiplier of 5.

I don't think the art of Lighting your scene will ever be about just adding a preset Sun system and hitting render.
As for the Shadow Studies, what's wrong with max's default Sun System?

For the first one, In my early testing it is about that easy for exteriors. Other than just a few tweaks on the camera for exposure it really just works. Materials do react a little differently and need some tweaking to work well in the light.

For the second one, the sky does not change with just the max sky system.

I agree, its much nicer for rough tests and lighting studies, but I dont think i'd ever use it for anything a bit more involved.
