  • recent work in 1.5 *Updated with Animation*

here are some stills from a recent project. the model has just under 1 million polys. mostly modeled in acad except for the big tires and hydraulic hoses. in the animation (not shown) i was getting anywhere from 3 to 3.5 minutes/frame on my old dual amd 1.7GHz. so far i'd say 1.5 "feels" like it has slightly faster render times in general.
i'm using the phisical cam for this image with environment light only. i'm still not getting good results with the vray sun/sky.

    [EDIT]
Here is a short animation testing a few things. It has some flickering and I would like to adjust the path but that will have to wait for now.

Looks great . My only comment is that the tires look a little too evenly dirty. Maybe a blend of somesort between dirty (treads) and not dirty (rims) areas. And that canopy looks really heavy and a little scary to be sitting under!

thanks for the comments. i agree the tire texture needs to be tweaked. i need to learn how to use the unwrap uvw modifier i think. the canopy is kind of odd but its right in line with my reference photos...i cant show those though

Ok, the bitmaps aren't perfect on the tires and canopy, but over all I'm very impressed with your attention to detail with all the dirt texture mapping and lighting. If I wasn't looking for problems, I would definately think this was real. I wanna see the animation!

                    Very very very nice.
The dirt on the wheel is pretty nice!! albeit a little bit same-y.

I think the metal rods needs a nicer reflection environment. i think.

Looks great - very nice texturing work. Are there no additional lights in the scene, just vray environment?

                              thanks for the comments.

                              @ percy: done and done

@ DaForce: I think you are right about the reflection environment and the chrome rods. They probably should have some blue reflections in them from the sky.

@ armilla: yes, only environment light was used for this scene. it was the easiest way to get soft shadows consistant with the BG photo. I am using a HDRI but it is only for the reflections and is not contributing to the light. also the ground plane is a matte object. i assigned a vray mat with a solid diffuse color similar to the dirt road in the photo to get proper light bounces/color bleed.
