  • old and new

i've been lurking for quite a while now and finally have something (hopefully) worthwhile to post. these were a few stills rendered for an animation that became a sort of "intro" and "outro" for a sales pitch for one of our clients (the theme was the evolution of an antique home to a modern one). i was responsible for materials, lighting, rendering, compositing, and modeling (except for the desk clock, by darren butler, and some of the basic furniture--which was taken from old prop libraries and heavily modified). this was delivered sometime in february, but i just recently got permission to show it.

this board has been a huge source of knowledge and inspiration for me, and i just wanted to say "thanks!"

thanks for looking, and for any comments.

Very nice. I'd take the old one over the new any time, though.

          Masterful lighting job, man.
Love the feeling of the old wallpaper, love the contrast, love the attention to details.
          Inspiring stuff, man.
I'm sure our flames just lit the way

Nice work, I think the "old" was taken to a much higher level of care and detail than the "new". The "new" just feels empty and undesigned.

I'd love to know how you achieved the wallpaper on the "old" version. I once had to do a wallpaper almost exactly like that and had a difficult time achieving results that good.

Nice to see your work on the forum Greg. Looks great the old has so much style the "typical" look of our modern day interiors do look very austere.

Any chance of upping atleast the Into animation?

                      thanks for the comments everyone..

austerity aside, i suppose it's a bit too obvious where most of my effort went. i agree the modern version could've used more "love".

eric >> nice to finally join you! i hadn't thought of putting up the animation, but i don't see why i couldn't. i wasn't particularly fond of it, but maybe a little down-res'ing would help me out.

dynedain >> i'm flattered! when i get a moment i'll post some info on the wallpaper.
