      Updated cabin

Here is an update per suggestions.. I took the birds out after someone from another forum said they were bad, prior to getting the post they were good here.

        Cabin Sky

How about skies? Everything I post on the AutoDesk site a user comments on how he doesn't like the skies he sees in renderings. He likes to seem them washed out. I prefer, and I think the clients do also, a nice blue sky with white fluffy clouds. I'll go back and look at some of the exterior images here and make note of how skies are being done. Any opinions?

[rant] Forget Autodesk. Its a worthless company and a worthless forum. Their customer service is non-existent unless you buy it as an option and I have never had an answer to any question I've posted on their forum.
I wish they didn't own most of the software I use. [/rant]

          And I liked the birds.

I think your foreground DOF is too noisy. You might have better luck "faking" it in photoshop. Starting below the base of your tree, to the bottom of the image, I would create a gradient mask blending between the regular image and a gaussian blurred one. Or maybe try DOF with a Z-depth mask in the lens blur in CS2. Also Richard Rosenman (sp?) has a DOF filter for photoshop which is pretty nice.

I can understand why you describe working on this jobs as a fight. Personally I think it is a fight you cannot win for some reason but I cant really figure out where to improve things.

I think your camera view is fine, theres no obvious mistakes with anything you have done. I think the textures by themselves look fine, and same with the planting and background. Sorry for the useless feedback

possibly one area what may need work is that the house overall seems to lack a bit of depth in terms of light and shadows and some textures appears a bit oversaturated. I think this stands out when compared to parts of the foregound treed which appear to be dark.

So bottom line, I would start the entire lighting setup completely from scratch. start off with just a plan white rendering until you are happy that parts are not oversaturated to the point where shadows generated by the geometry are lost. Once you are happy with this and the lighting across the entire scene is working well, put the textures back on and see if it helps.

Maybe part of the problem is the design and material selection that may make it impossible to make this job look good. There is no really obvious problems with what you have done in my opinion, so from that respect good work!. I think the comments you are getting just reflect peoples varying opinions and style, nobody has a right/wrong answer really.

              Reply

Thank for the reply and I think you hit the nail on the head. The building is boring and lacks character. My whole goal was to give it some life! I did my best....
