  • Tech Ed WIP - and a rendering issue

A tech-ed school project that I started with using the demo version, and contined on with 1.5.

    Media Center

    Tech-ed classroom

Main Lobby and Courtyard with rendering issue

    Rendered with glass:

Without glass using saved IR and LC

Without glass using new IR and LC

    Settings

The areas that are giving me grief are grouped and instanced objects. Any iideas what might be causing this?

Some changes I would make are, change your IR preset back to custom, (which will keep the same settings as medium animation) and then blur GI down to 0.0.
I would also unchek store direct light in LC and change filter type to fixed.

So explain what are the exact render problem you hare having. That would help alot too.

Thanks. I'll try changing those settings. As to the rendering issue, the courtyard walls aren't rendering properly through the glass; the 5th and 7th images demonstrate this. The glass is .5" thick extruded lines.

Oh yeah... hmmm try increaseing the max depth of the glass for both the reflect and refract.
The dark rendered one just looks like the saved map either wasnt calced properly or something as there is no bounce light out there at all. You could try and save the ir map with the glass hidden then unhide the glass and render.

Odd. Increasing the max depth (increased to didn't have any effect, and hiding the glass during the IR calc and then unhiding it produces the same result. Hrmm.. I guess I'll have to remodel that section and see if that does the the trick.

An updated image with revised materials/lighting and glass hidden.

It's definitely something to do with the opacity. The grill is an opacity map and it's showing the same error; only on that one area though. Odd.

Yeah. It was definitely a geometry issue. I need to start changing my modeling habits for Vray.

Do you know what was wrong with the mesh to cause that?

              Well atleast its sorted

Nope.. I'm still puzzled as to what was causing the issue. The courtyard is from an older model that I plugged into the interior model.

what did you use for the lights (lighting)? Vray lights or something else.

I'm using a Vray Sun, Vray lights at the windows (so I don't over expose the courtyard), a low level skylight for outdoor fill and IES lights where I need them in the pendants. When I get a chance I'll probably try to get rid of half of the lights and toss in attenuated omnis for the pendant fixtures.

Heh. Yeah. A few people helped to save my bacon on that interior space deadline.
