  • House on the water wip

This is the first time i am trying a water material, (thanks to the comments on the Drilling Platform tread I was able to come up with this sean.) C&C welcome.

    Thanks

      nice start mate

I think you need to knock back your rgb on the white as its too burned out

I agree on the white stucco.

And the wooden beams and stucco seem to lack texture

The water looks good for a first try

          yep you need more contrast

The water is a difficult part, it should be more transparent IMO, and maybe darker...

I am not too concern about the stucco I will correct that. Most of my effort was making the water.
Pixelab, to understand you more transparent, means making it more refractive?

            Thanks

yeah, I agree with him too.

Whole thing needs textures, looks a bit flat at the moment.

Yep, more refractive. Water is difficult because it's a subtle blending between strong refraction & faloff reflection.

A good start is to begin with a 255 refraction & 255 fresnel reflection, vray Sky on should help to get nice reflection. Don't forget to put a texture under the level of the water (using realistic distances)

Then adjust the refraction (let it "grey", give the color to the water diffuse material) But usually, the water is blue because of the sky or because of the bottom of the pool colored in light blue... but not because of the "color of the water"

Is your bump map a noise or a wave procedural ? I would try wave with a slightly bigger radius

here are some images i've found on the net that may help !

Pixelab, for the water i use a mesh with a noise mod. applied to it. As far as the color of the water, if i understand you clearly, The water gets it color thur reflection, (not diffuse) so if i were to use a sky dome with a sky texture applied to it , the water material being reflective should reflect the sky tust getting its color. but the water material sould be transparent (refractive) enough to see into it.
question what role does the fog color plays?

Pixelab, After reading your comments, here is what i came up with. The color of the water is from reflection of the sky.
