robot in about 7 or 8 shots was done in Vray (some shots of it on the bridge, falling, and leaving the factory) as well as the water in the bridge shots accept for the impact shot, that was live. Vray played very well in HD

      yeah, great animation!

Saw that commercial and wondered who did the shots of the robot. Really cool to see that VRay was used for it. The compositing was flawless!

How did u do the lighting for the model to match so well with the background?
Did u shoot HDR imagery or reflection plates? Did u match the lighting by eye and finish the final comp in post by cc it?

            Excellent work!

the splash in the water was real, as well as the robot in that shot.

For the lighting, yes we did take HDRs at the locations, but for most of the night shots I ended up lighting more traditionally, with a few lights. The compositors also worked with a few light passes as well, to match the contrast and such of the real robot on the bridge.

Fantastic job! You can read the robot's emotion even without any expressions - great animation.... and rendering too...

I have seen your reel at sway and it's amazing. Are u using craft director tools? Camera moves and render quality are stunning!

not quite sure what that is, we are using the standard max camera, and now the Vray physical camera. We do add a bit of shake and things to our camera moves, to take some of the CG edge off of them. We have a few guys who work on camera moves during the previs stages, myself included (we play double or triple rolls quite often)

Yeah, really nice. I missed the first 10 seconds of this the first time but by the end of it I could really "get" that he was let go from GM for some reason. Well directed and well executed all around.

I think it was modeled in lightwave, I could be wrong though. I jumped on the project only for the lighting and rendering, I was on a different project for the rest of the time.
