  • A mansion in North Carolina

    Few notes.

The colors are probably going to look weird, in a way that they're too saturated and shift too much towards yellow. The reason for this is that i am working on a laptop which has a weird display. After a bit of tweaking it printed out nicely.

There are some issues, though i guess that they can't be seen in the small rez. The bump map on the roof is flipped at some points so the bump is inverted. There are some artifacts on the garage door frame, i'm not sure why they appeared, maybe i had double geometry there or maybe bad mapping.

The glass looks kinda dull because i didn't make any masks.

The lighting seems out of scale, and the mansion look like a candy (Lewis Caroll you know?) and a bit washed out.

How do you mean "out of scale"?

I mean: I found it not at the good scale! The mansion seems little to me may be due to the lighting or the cam.

the trees in the background are making the house seem small. Maybe cropping the image differently would help

yes its primarily the cropping i suppose. You need to have more on either side of the house to give it a better sense of scale. Its only sense of scale is really provided by the background trees which makes it look small. Its a huge house, give it something to make it seem the size that it really is. Good job on everything else.

So showing more space around the house with reference objects, would help the sense of scale?

I was on a tight deadline, so i didn't want to bother with the enviroment. I'm thinking of reducing the height of the trees and move them closer to the house.

                Here is another view:

definitely, making the BG trees quite a bit smaller will make this house more epic and magnificent.

The grass looks great. Is it a texture map? I would put a displacement on the stone

                      Hi pailhead,

well done I like the rendering, specially the second one, looks much more powerful. I got few small crits. What bothers me the most is the "burned" garage wall, do you have different textures on the walls? one by the entrance door seams that is picking up sme pinkish color from roof or paving. In my oppinion trees are not as much as reference as car or people should be. So if you put those rather, it will show the size better. And one more thing, middle window on the right is not booleaned by purpose?

                      Overall, nice one.

                      Regards

                        Nice!

Nice! I second the grass. Is it Vray displacement and a super nice grass texture map??

                          Thanks for the comments.

Well, as far as grass is concerned... it's not exactly a super nice texture, but it is a super nice photo. I compose it in photohsop, it's an actual photo of a very neat lawn. I find this much easier than displacements and other whatnots when doing static renderings.

If you're interested in the collection, it's available on turbosquid.

                          Eye-level lawn

I hope that i'm not breaking any rules with this.
