Have a look on the 2nd page of that thread, he posts image that have no post work on them. They dont look anywhere near as good.
All his images are HEAVILY worked over in photoshop.
Thats what makes them look so good.

Here is a quick(>10 min) retouch. Hope you don't mind.

I did a soft light layer over the original, which I gave a little monochromatic noise and a little vignetting. I also played with the HSL(hue saturation lightness) which did compromise color consistency in favor of mood.

There is a free PS filter that can give you some nice effects from optikVerve Labs called Virtual Photographer. I don't know if I would use the effects right out, but as blended layers you can get quite a bit more depth out of your images without much additional time or effort.

I couldn't pull much out of your pool, it may be a little overexposed, but overall I feel your original image is really good.

Also, under1979 stated later in his thread that the clients preferred the "plain" images, which I would assume is probably due to color consistency, it is something that I see all of the time.

        Later.

            Hi ccolpatria,

I also tried some things in Photoshop:

It does not exactly look like the renderings of "under1979". But it might be a bit into the right direction maybe.

            Regards,
            Mirko

PS: I can send you the PSD file if you like

Ey c'mon - I don't think that the girl in the water is THAT ugly!

You are right - might be a bit oversaturated.

Retouch the right top corner of your sky... It seems to have some tiling line there...

                        Best regards,
