Just wanted to share some recent works for C&C....trying to improve my lighting/render skills, so any comments are welcome...

Done in Max 8 with Vray 1.5 R3
Scene is skylight with one vray light

    thanks!

looks really good. Nice materilas and modeling especially. Do you mind telling what you used for primary and secondary GI?

      hey thanks..sure

I am using IR/LC...but i think my IR setting are too low..there is some strange shadowing in the glass LCD panel. I am playing with QMC/LC
now since this will have to be animated (camera PLUS the door flap opening)
ugh, why couldnt it just be the CAMERA!!! : )

I usually use IR/LC because I struggle stil to get rid of noise with QMC/LC, with seemingly any settings! I think your render looks lgood, man. Does the shadow you mention go away if you switch to QMC/LC? It looks like maybe it's a material issue? Anyway, nice work!

          thanks!

I know...IR/LC gives you nice soft shadows...just raising the Hsubs in IR map and dist thresh helped with that shadow artifact in the glass LCD, as well as min/max rate. Switchig to QMC would definitely get rid of it since its more accurate, but again noise. For moving objects animation, you have to use QMC (or ridiculously high IR settings) to get rid of flicker so its worth exploring good QMC settings..you may need them someday!

Looks quite nice. Possible to see a low poly wire? Before smoothing.

I think the scene is a bit too gray/dark.. or something. Would look nice with some glossy reflections on the floor as well.

looking good highpoly. Might be nice to add a slight colour to 1 of the lights to give it some variation

                great feedback..thanks!

                jacksc02 - i will try that..it is so color-less a scene..great idea..

DaForce - actually these are from CAD models (aghh!!) i had do a LOT of cleanup (double faces, etc)..NO smoothing..haah.....i can post the mesh wires if you like, but they are dense!

Also, will try to brighten things up a bit..

ahh CAD models hey.. pass on the wireframe then.. I was just interested in your poly modelling technique. But since in this case there isnt any.. no need to worry

Rhino would eat this model up )

thanks..cant take too much credit for the modeling since they were orig CAD models, but the cleanup was a chore enough! lol
