The sky is rather dark and depressing... which is affecting your mood...

The other thing is that in the second shot, everything is in shadow. You should move the sun for the second shot so that it is positioned relative to the camera in a similar way to the first shot.

I haven't seen the site to see what is across the street. I'll get the address and do a MSN Live map.

I'll work on the roof, too.

I agree about missing the wow factor. The building looks great so I think the problem is the scene its in.

The first thing that jumps at me is the sky. It doesn't seem blue enough for me. Looks like a storm just cleared up with all those clouds and still having a very bright sun. As a result, your windows are also kinda gray. A bluer sky with less clouds would make your windows look better as well.

Also, the trees by the building are pretty yellow and desaturated compared to the richness of the brick as well as the hedges under the window. They look like they are malnourished.

I think another problem might be the composition of your render. It's mostly building. Unless the client has specifically asked for an eye-level shot, I would try to raise the camera up off the ground a bit and pull back. Try to frame the church with a little bit more scene (grass in the foreground, etc).

Keep in mind that this is all a matter of taste, so just play a little and see if any of these help. Overall, I feel the scene needs a little more blue (sky) and a little more green (trees and grass) for balance.

I know that my laptop screen is generally pretty screwed but still, your shadows are way too dark. I can't imagine how the second image looks on CRT screens, the shadows are probably BLACK. The sky is kinda dull now, you might want to try witha simple cloudless sky which is intensive in it's color. This one now, doesn't remind me at all of the sky in the first rendering, that one was just WOW.

And why did you crop the image so much, what happened to the foreground?

Maybe it's just me, since the screen on this sager laptop is pathetic, but still your image is much darker than the rest i'm seeing.

                    Church

I am having the hardest time with this one. I am not sure if it is because it is all roof and brick, or if it is my new monitor.

                    I did these last night.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe try a bit of soft reflection across the bricks? It'd give you a nice gradient of light towards the sunset and a bit more variety across the church.

Well, you could if you wanted but you could do it in the render too - bit of fresnel falloff on the bricks - you'll get something like this across the face of the building:

Sorry for the shit image, you could take a look at the mpg here for a moving shot:

                            Brick

What happened to the brick generators? The ones I have don't work anymore and the links to the sites are dead. I had amce and a belcon and they both worked great. How are others generating large areas of brick and/or shingles? I used to have success with MAX's tile generator, but it must have changed in MAX 9 because the results were not good.

the problem for me in the last image you posted is the sun. It's hitting the building at the corner producing equal lighting on both sides. You need just for the building to not read flat to adjust the sun so isn't hitting like that imo.

I want the old sky back
