  • [WIP] Staircase, for my house

I started working on a night shot for one of my school designs. For i nightshot, i have to show a lot of lit interior, and since i have a huge window to light my staircase i decided to model something fast.

Well, since i don't have any access to architectural magazines, and i was too lazy to search online i just started making something very simple and minimalistic. The window was supposed to be made out of glass blocks, so i figured that anything seen through them wont be recognizable anyway.

I kinda ended up liking the design, and now i'm trying to make it more feasible and somewhat logical.

Since i don't know much about stair construction or materials, i'm not sure if something like this is possible, or if it needs to be much thicker or whatnot.

Anyway, i've set up a quick enviroment for this, and the render ended up looking kinda nice, so i decided to share. Sorry for such a long introduction.

I've done a minimal amount of photoshop work on it. Since it was saved as exr and kinda overexposed, i played with the exposure settings, and now i'm going mental because i don't remember the exact numbers. Afterwards i've hit autocolor just for fun, and i've added a taaaad of glow (it's the blue hint you can see on the overexposed windows on the top). It's wip in every way, i wan't to improve both the rendering and finish my design.

    its awesome...
i thought this was a reference photo!
anyways...i kind of dislike the design of the black frame on the wall...but thats just me...other than that the stair itself looks "doable" constructionwise imo

      Thanks.

At first i only made the black frame around the stairs themselves, but then i didn't know what to do with it on the second flor since it sticks out and ends abruptly. A thought occured that i could raise it all the way up to the hand rail and then circle around and so i ended up with a frame. It's a concept of sorts, i kinda like it. although i still haven't figured out what to do with the middle.

It looks great - if anything the grain and the overexposure make it more realistic - they kind of look like the mistakes you'd get in photography.

                          Thanks for the nice comments

I'm trying to find good glass blocks reference images. My current material is really simple, i'd like to improve it because no one seems to recognize them as such.

displace the glass wall... that should do it. well i tried once, with
a bitmap made in photoshop, looks quite good, but render abit longer...
