  • Deconstruction

Kind of low res but here is a video we did illustrating the deconstruction of the 130 Liberty building damaged in the 9-11 attack. The animation was completed in about a week and a half last year by Joel Burbage (flyinhawaiian) and myself.

Here is a photo of the actual building:

THAT'S GREAT FOR A WEEK AND A HALF.
by the way, isn't it easier to detonate the building rather than
doing this...(well i guess they have their own reason )

      Thanks

There are a few reasons why the don't just implode it, the main reason it is coming down, instead of being repaired, is that it is "contaminated" with a lot of asbestos , lead paint and other nasties. Also there is not much room around it and the residents are very worried about dust from the contaminates.

In the news today I heard that a ten foot piece of 3" pipe fell from the 35th floor, pierced a hole in a 6" concrete roof at a fire station below, narrowly missing two firemen.

I agree.. totally amazing for 1 1/2 weeks work!!!

That stuff amazes me, how they can just pull apart a building. The cost involved must be astronomical compared to just blowing the crap out of it.

Do you have any figures about the time frame and cost involved from start to empty site Percy?

Would love to see a discovery channel episode about something like this. Pretty sweet.

We were pretty stressed out over it, the short time frame, that it was going to be seen by the Mayor etal and the circumstances surrounding it made it quite a challenge, I am glad you like it.

Wow, time flies, according to the news video here http://news.google.com/news?um=1&tab...truction++cost (sorry can't link directly) we did it in 2005. The articles says the cost will be over $100,000,000, more than it cost to build it.

                          RErender,

Very nice, especially for a crazy deadline! I love to see videos documenting building and or deconstruction processes.
