I took a 1 hr exposure of the night sky with my new digi camera a few days ago and decided to try duplicating the effect with vray. I mapped a star bitmap to a rotating plane and used motion blur.

Only a couple tiny subtle differences that I see. Since you mapped to a rotating plane, your trails are perfectly concentric, even though your camera is not pointing at the center of the rotation. I think you'll get a little better result with the inside of a hemisphere instead of a plane.
And the other thing, Polaris (the star at the center of rotation) is missing from your render
Add a soft glow in post to account for the atmospheric light pollution, and a slight blur to take the jaggedies off the aliasing, and you're there!
