  • first go at interior...

    Hi!

i got my first chance to have a go at interior shots the other day, so i looked up lele's incredibly enlightening physcam tutorials and started off with LWF and the whole holahoop. a colleague did the geometry, while i had a look at the lighting part...

the thing is, i've gone kind of ray-blind, so i could really use some second opinions...

the first image almost rendered by itself using lele's workflow, but the second one had some serious issues. using the exact same settings as the first one (except a slight exposure change) it came out fine without any furniture, but with furniture added it seemed to eat all GI or something - it rendered very dark. i ended up with some serious over exposing and reinhard burn at 0.05 to keep pixel values around 1.0
the exposure issue can be seen where the sun hits the floor...

Bring your camera down to eye level (5' 6")... it feels like the viewer is 10 feet tall...

      Looks good.
-I agree about the camera height, though. Also try cmaera correction because your vertical lines look to be falling over (just a suggestion to try.)
-something seems odd about the ceiling material. What is it supposed to be representing?
-floor texture mapping seems a tad large.

Lighting and background look really good, too. keep it up!
Did you use the .255 method from LeLe on these? I found those Tuts very helpful, too.

...or if you are lazy like me
            http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...ycam+tutorials

great stuff people, thanks! camera height and correction, slipped my mind completely, they are definately needed. and, yes the .255 method is in use...

not very much attention paid to materials yet, mainly lighting - but ofcourse as experienced in image 2, both geometry and materials play a huge role in how to light a scene...the ceiling? i don't even know what it's supposed to represent and the floor mapping is way too big, agreed. ray-blindness can cause severe mapping and lighting disorders

...feeling better today, gonna try to lighten the overall image feel and do the fixes as mentioned

              Hi Kimgar,

Looking good. In addition to what the others have said you might want to bring the saturation level down a little bit. The red from the curtains is bleeding onto the wall.

Yeah the second set of images look wicked. Does the artwork in the last image say 'doggystyle' ?

                        thanks people!

it's just sun/sky and .255 method, the background is just comped in pictures taken from my veranda, the client's site is actually next to my house

haha, good spot joni, it does indeed say doggystyle
the modeller added that for fun and fortunately the client had a little sense of humour for a change!
