Here is a prelim of a new facility we are doing. Basically showing this to the "money" people. As soon as we decide on a final design ,we are going forward with more realistic renderings, but for now, just the ol site plan under the model trick.

Only thing I don't like is the ratio of the image - gorgeous, really like the illustration underneath too. Admittedly it'd sacrifice clarity but some depth of field would make the renderings very sweet.

That is a really nice way of presenting a concept.

          Nicely done!

Thanx all...You know...We have been doing this presentation technique for years and it all started by accident...I usually take the sketch from the architect and import it into CAD...Then I trace overtop....Then 3d model and materials and etc...etc...One day I left the image ON in CAD and file linked then rendered and BAM...there it was on the bottom....The rest is history...Of course now Max 9 will not RENDER the image...I had to draw a box over top and apply yhe image to it...But still the same....Animations are really cool with this method also....

i agree with the DOF comment. one problem about extreme depth of field is that it makes bldgs look toy like, and small. well... this is one case in which it would really work. i would use actual DOF created with your camera settngs though, instead of trying to fake it.

                Eric,

Great images! I used to do this technique as well for our forensic stuff. I looks really neat if you animate everything coming up through the drawing. Another neat way is to use animated clipping planes on the camera.

                Really like this look...again....great images.

Nice, ( what a nice way to avoid working on the terrain.. )

                    great job eric!

we've also done some similar solutions, not nearly as good as this, but the rule applies - simpler is better

love the quality of the handdrawn image there - good stuff!

Sweet.....I probably won't do the DOF But my boss wants me to make the background out of focus and the foreground in focus though

Ditto, that's totally awesome! I would rotate the light around on the backside view so it's not all shadow.

Does anyone have any ideas or tips to make this look like more of a MODEL....like on a table in a room? Lighting setup? Can I take an interior that I have done and insert this model inside it on a table or the floor?
