I seem to be getting black dots on my red shiny chairs also the quality of the tree on the left hand side isn't that great either it looks a bit grainy. The subdivisions on the glossies on both is 50, does anybody have any ideas?

I'm using Max 9, Vray 1.5, Phy Cam, Vray Sun and Sky.

Any comments and crits as well please as it's WIP. Thanks

What are your DMC settings ? Is the sky GI or a Domelight ?

btw, the best problem in the pic is the "Man in the Head" lol

Ha I knew someone would bring that up, guess i should have moved them all around before I posted it.

My adaptive amount is 0.85, noise threshold is 0.005, Min samples 8, Global subdiv multi 1 and Schlick sampling?

        Hey again,

i meant the AA DMC sampling, not the global sampler.

Very nice rendering! I love the mood you have set. You should probably remove the man walking from the other mans skull though.....

is that LWF ? if so did you adjust the sampling for it ?

Yeah it is LWF these are my complete settings it's probably easier this way.

if it's LWF you need to tick "Dont affect colors" and set the Gamma to 2.2 in the color-mapping rollout. that should help a lot already. If you dont then VRay will sample sRGB tho the output is linear. Wich means that it does WAY undersample because to VRay everything seems rather dark.

                    what he said!
especially noticeble in this image due to the dim light conditions.

I was under the impression that if the below were my setting in my preferences/gamma rollout I dfidn't need to set gamma as 2.2 in the colour mapp rollout?

Ok, I really appreciate you help. But I did what you said as you can see below and it made no difference to my render?

Sorry for all the posts but I have a major problem now, I haven't changed any of the setting except upping the resolution to 3500 pixels wide to render over the weekend and this is what happens. Nothing appears when it is building the light cache and this appear when it is doing the irradiance passes?

It renders fine at 2000 pixels wide, I'm not running out of RAM.

That kind of VFB display means you are just at the edge of a crash because of lack of memory. So you have to conserve some memory.

Besides it helped a lot already. hard to tell with a compressed jpg. but even in the jpgs if i put the nect to each other in PS there's a lot less highfrequency noise in the images. You will most likely have to boost AA sampling a little as the noisy parts are rather dim and hence not sampled enough. just raise the minimum samples i guess.

Set in Max preferences/gamma rollout bitmap files - Output Gamma to 1.0,
Incresase LC sub from 300 to 1000, number of passes should be a number of cores /In my dual quad xeon 5355 is 8/
Also try global sub. mult. from 1 to 3...
