  • Charrette Image

    Hi all,

I generated this image for a charrette in another forum. The model and charrette were created by Jeff Patton. I thought I would post it here first to get some feedback before I posted it there. Once again all crits and comments to improve what I have done are greatly appreciated.

Image was genereated in VRAY 1.5. The lighting consists of VRAY sky and some photometric lighting.

looks excellent...really cant pick flaws in it although i think the reflection off the glass seems to line up with the internal stone wall which confuses me a bit as it seems to give the impression that the stone is also reflecting. its not a fault though...

Hey, thanks everyone for the kind words!

Paulison - Thanks for pointing out the strange reflection along the internal wall. I think this is cuased because everything was modeled so symmetrically. I'm going to try to find a work around.

So do you like the Vray or Fry version better?

@ mresailor - Thanks for the comment.

                My water shader:

                Diffuse Color 9,29,54 151,213,54

                Reflect Slot:
Reflect Color (Reflection Value) 255,255,255 0 0 255 (basicaly pure white)
                Fresnel reflection (checked)
                Fresnel IOR 1.3
                (everything else defualt)

                Refraction Slot:
Refract Color (Trasparent Value) 207,207,207 0,0,207
                IOR 1.2
                Max Depth 5
                Exit Color 37,45,63 157,105,63
                Fog Color 86,108,132 150,89,132
                Fog Multiplier .07
                check affect shadows
                (everything else defualt)

I also applied a noise modifier to the geometry I used as my water surface to create the ripples.

                Hope that helps.

                @ JeffG2 - definetly VRAY!

thanks MHenry - wow, thats much more involved than what I was thinking. Here are two images that I was playing around with the other day (yes, using Pixel Cream's freebie for frame of reference and the bridge to no where was a test of scale - for the wave sizes:

                  Water:
                  Vray Material
                  Reflect: 70,70,70
                  Refl. Glossiness: 1.0
                  Subdivs: 8
                  Fresnel reflections checked (unlocked)
Fresnel IOR 3.4 (using Vray Color in the maps rollout 213, 213, 213)
                  Max Depth: 5.

Added a Vray Displacement Mod and adjust the amount (first image is 6" and second is 2") based on how close the subject is) in this case the boat..

                  Thanks for sharing..

Maybe you should try cranking up the artificial light, blowing them out a bit and making them much warmer. Also, maybe even lowering the environment multiplier while keeping the same background sky intensity.
