  • Cruel to be kind

    Hi all,
Had to produce a series of images for a client recently one of my first using Vray. Hope some of you can give me some honest feed back without being to cruel....
    Viz 2008, Vray 1.5RC2, Photoshop 6

    Thanks for your feed back.

pretty well done. Some burnout in the last image. Also in the second, it would be alot stronger IMO, if the sun shadow didn't follow the line that it does. Maybe have the sun behind the camera, with a nice tree casting a shadow onto the image.

I think these images are way to realistic to be used with contour people.

the images are really good, and as the previous posts stated, try differnt type of cutouts.
the last image, does it say 21hours21min for the render time?
a bit too long I think.

Unfortunately I can't remove the people because they were requested by a higher being than myself.

I have to say i didn't think too much about the people as they are supposed to only help give a scense of proportion & scale. My thinking was outlined people would not distract the viewer away from what they were supposed to be looking at (the building) but from the reaction a guess i got that one wrong.

Another reason i used outlined people was that my image library is somewhat limited and i found i hard to collect enough relevant images of a decent quality where the lighting was somewhere near where it had to be. We have a couple of bought disks but these are mostly of 80's looking buisnessmen and not ideal for a british university library.

Percydaman i think your bob on about the second image, in my first tests i had the sun behind the camera and i think it looked better but those pesky higher powers came a shot me down as it is a north facing elevation and therfore in shadow 95% of the time.

Thanks for the comments all the same and keep em coming

Why dont you try losing the border around the people, leaving them white, or maybe even black? Perhaps transparent but more intense?

                  Very nice overall.
Even though they are north facing views you can bump up the brightness a little more.
With the cut-out people I'd lose the foreground ones, or at least make the outlines thinner.

Your grammar could use some work!

                      "...without being to cruel"

                      should be:

                      "..without being too cruel"

                      Cruel enough for you? :P

                      Nice artwork though

Thanks for your comments, except for you werticus that is .Yur luki u bide sae fur awa or id fit me bit up yur arse ye bassa.

I will at least reduce these borders as they seem to cause such overwhelming offence

greg04 - Yeah i know 21 hours is high but it was rendered at 3500 pixels on an old machine so I could live with it.

re:FORM - what's eca?? No it' a render in the top floor of this building. One of those very annoying tests that came out really well and then when it came to the final render i couldn't recreate it for love nor money.

eca= edinburgh art college. I was convinced it was a pic of the rooflights in the architecture department.

It isn't the Edinburgh Art College but it is the University of Edinburgh Main Library (currently under refurbishment). I wonder if that was the inspiration, naughty architects.

Are you base in Edinburgh? You want to give me a job? I'm sure i could learn a lot from your endless talent.
