  • Introduction and some renders

    Hi Everybody,
I've been lurking on here for over a year, and figured I'd finally better introduce myself and post some of my renders. Thanks to everyone for their posts on this forum, its been a huge asset for a new visualizer.

These are images for "Portwalk," a new city block here in Portsmouth, NH.

For the full-res images, check out our website: www.tangram3ds.com

This project is closed and I probably won't have time to revisit these images, but I'd still love to hear your comments and criticism.

    Cheers,
    Derik

Wow. Only crits are the skys and the car mats. Look up a good car paint vrayblend material that has glossy reflections. The skys just don't look natural. I really like the night shot.

A little too saturated for my taste, but still very nice work.

            Welcome!

As RErender said, a bit too saturated, but still very well done. Really love the night shot.

            Best regards,

            A.

On the birdseye shot, it looks like the sun position is incorrect. If we assume the top of the image is north, the south side of the buildings should be much darker, like the buildings in the background plate. There's very little change in brightness from one side of the building to the other, and there should be dark shadows on the ground as well. The 3d elements really jump out of the image.
The last two images are strong, aside from the car shaders and sky, which have been mentioned before. In the third image it looks like the black-suited man is going to be a pedestrian fatality, since there are no brake lights on the car running the intersection.

                Michael,
Good catch on the aerial building shadows. The client had me remove those in order to show the buildings and the new street better.

What do you feel is wrong with the skies?

They look a little flat, like they were just pasted in.

                    Welcome

Welcome to the forum. I like your image, but I cringe when I see RPC or billboard people. It takes a lot of work to make them work in an image and I have only seen a few that can pull it off. It might be worth investing in some hi-poly people. It is on my list of things to buy this year.

No RPC's here; axyz people for the night and aerial shot, and all photoshop people in the other two views. What hi-poly people packages are you looking at?

The axyz collections we have look like zombies close up. Those evermotion ones look better, but I would still only use them for medium to far distances, or from behind. The faces are pretty scary.

Thanks Bobby, I hadn't seen the evermotion people before. They're a good deal better than the AXYZ, especially the dude wearing the sunglasses. But quite expensive for only 10 unique people...
