  • Aircraft renders

I've been looking at the posts on this forum for some time now, and found many valuable tips and tricks from you guys. Now its my turn to introduce myself and show some of my renders.

I mainly do aviation related stuff. I work as an airline pilot from where I have the passion for airplanes. I like doing 3D work and have a small company called 3D-Aviation where I sell some of my images and animations - if I can find someone how wants to buy them...

Anyway - here are some of my renders

Btw - here an animation you also can take a look at. Just made it for fun to show the possibilities with 3D animation to possible clients.

Fantastic Images, especially the A320 !
I´m a big aviation fan, too ! I´m not a pilot, yet but I take Flying lessons
      whenever possible.
Are you into Flightsimming as well ?
If you want to make money with aircrafts... one possibility would be to make
aircrafts for the MS Flightsim series. Microsoft grants model developers the right
to earn money with addons. There are a lot companies out there who earn their money
just with Flighsim addons. For example.

        Great images and nice animation.
Did you use HRDI images for the background plates as well as the lighting?

These are great images. There are a couple things bothering me. I'm under the impressino that the highlights in the first image should be much more yellow, and it seems like there are some geometry issues on the canopy in the second image. I think it's seen on the uneven highlights that run over the cabin. I'm particularly bothered by the sharp but weird highlight between, and above the windows. I would place my bets that you've been poly modeling these, but that technique is very ungrateful when it comes to details like this, like preserving the overall shape of the fusselage but adding details to it.

On the other hand it may be that the plane is really built like that. But i'm curious. If it is a modeling issue, you could post some wires, we can find a solution

I always wanted to fly, but there is no way i can afford any lessons here and now

i think there is one very major thing missing from this collection of images....and that is a picture of you sitting inside the plane waving at the camera through one of the windows. other than that...excellent stuff.

                Ole,
I saw your site about 4 yrs ago and its been in my 'favorites' since, fantastic work, do you model all from scratch?

                Rgds,
                Tom

                  Thanks

Thank you for your comments and tips.

Renderoo: I use "normal" images for environment reflections and env. lighting. I simply put these images in the Environment slots under Rendering. And then I make sure they are changed to Spherical in the mat. editor.

                  Pailhead:
The "noisy" highlights & reflections over the cabin are on purpose as an aircraft fuselage is not as straight and clean as e.g. a car. Second image - some highlight around the pax windows (mostly seen on the forward ones in this image) is also on purpose. There is a metallic frame around the windows.

                  Mikeh:
Its actually me sitting in the Learjet - not waving though

                  Tom182:
Yes - I model from scratch - primarely using real images for reference. Many blueprints are not that good.

I've posted a wireframe of the A340 for those interested...

First off all: amazing work. Really like it!

                    Some small crits:
                    - agree with pailhead on the higlights of the first image
                    - in the render of the emirates aircraft, the plane doesn't fit too well with the backgroundplate. Perhaps contracting and blurring the mask or using a better ground texture would blend it better.

I think your movie has some really nice shots, nice cameramovement, attention to details...
It starts very cinematic. (using the Trajan font helps of course )
However when I saw the product analysis, I (personally) thought it looked a bit cheap. If you can make such nice rendering shots, I'm sure you can make the analysis look better than that!

Like the logo too. But I would make the "produced by" and "copyright 2007" a much smaller font-size. It draws the attention away from your logo and website.
I would also decrease the kerning of the url, so that it aligns to "challenging the real world".

Everytime I look at great things like this and not architectural stuff, I can't help but think - hey I want to do stuff like that! That is amazing! Good job!

Bravo by the way. These are really nice! - you seem to have hit the spot when it comes to aircraft rendering.

Some things that might be nice would be to have the trails coming from the engines - i don't know what that's called technically, but it might be nice. I once did a matchmoving test with a plane - it's crudely done but I did some particles in post. Could have been better.

                          http://youtube.com/watch?v=SfOzT9OdLsM

You could look at afterburn perhaps - the aircraft come through clouds and such, add a little camera shake through turbluence. I can imagine lots of nice angles being used here like from the gear as it lifts when the aircraft takes off, or on the tail as the craft banks.

One question though - your backgrounds - how'd you do them?

Great images. The SAS one is my favourite...any chance of sharing your lighting setup ? Are you using a hdri or vray sun and sky ? LWF ?
