  • WIP - dreamhouse

    Hi Guys,

I will (if its ok) do a WIP of a house that ive designed. Its my first house, so I've kept the shape pretty basic. Im hoping to become more adventurous on my second design.

So here are a couple of screens for your viewing pleasure.

I will update this thread with images as I go along. Please tell me if its not okay to do this on this forum

Dont forget this is WIP, so low quality will be visible in some areas until I refine them.

    Cheers

Nice start. I don't think anyone will be offended to see a wip go finished. Any shots from outside, or do you wish to keep this an interior design experiment? (Or pardon me, if it's an actual house you've designed to be built, - or have been - irl)

    Best regards,
    A.

lighting and texturing looks pretty good to me. I like the furry cushion in the red chair. (I cant get my fur to work, so I end up using displacement which doesnt look as good). I Very much like the closeup of the couch!
      Good job!
      Kind Regards,

        Thanks guys.

The cushion in the red chair is actually 3dsmax hair & fur. I had to use geometry for it to render, but it does a good job.

Will render some exterior shots soon. This project is exterior and interior so a fair bit of work to do yet.

Is this a house you're planning on living in eventually or just a 3d project?
When I find that pot of gold im gonna design my own house from scratch and get it built on a big piece of land near a beach. None of this square brick terraced rot they seem to love in the uk.

Unfortunately, it will probably remain just a dream, unless of course my income raises dramatically or I win the lottery So just a 3d project for now.

I thought I would try my hand at house/building design as I usually take plans from architects to produce the visuals. Something else I want to break into maybe. I know there is a lot more to it than just creating some walls etc, but I think that you have to start somewhere. I do have an extensive background in engineering, so working out weight distribution over areas etc wont be a problem. Which is mainly what I need to think about, apart from the actual aesthetics of the building. Plus, its something else for my portfolio

the focus of your dreamhouse seems to be on the couch! :P

images looking good though. would be nice since its a dreamhouse to really push the design aspect a bit more though and come up with something insane.

my dreamhouse would probably be something like silvermoon city in world of warcraft. Lots of shiney glowey things, funky shapes and maybe even a few sentinels. Probably a lot of impossible shapes and structures as well :P

Or id open an architectural magazine and cut/paste adapt architectural elements other people came up with (As many architects seem to do - i think they all cut and paste from the same magazines).

If its just a 3d project you wont need to worry about structural engineering issues at this stage, just let your imagination do all the work. I assume you've seen Grand Designs - i get a lot of inspiration from that and as mentioned above, magazines.
Theres a book called Modern House by John Welsh which showcases some amazing homes from around the globe. One in particular i really like has a lot of vertical old timber cladding internally, lots of split levels and walkways with streams running underneath and plenty of glass.
