  • Jade material

    Hi all -
I've been playing a bit with SSS and the Vray materials and made what I think is a nice generic jade. I started off with some settings that Jonas posted sometime back and went from there. It's very tweakable for look (at the price of being slightly complicated) but renders fairly quickly, and the textures are tileable for a good generic starting point. What do you think?

I've posted it to Vraymaterials.de but I really don't like the standard scene file much so I am also just posting it to my own site. You can get the material here if you like:

              Looks really good!
Could you explain your settings a bit? Why use the same material twice in a VRayBlendMtl?

                Thanks Shimakaze.

I have it in there twice to create a bit more layering of reflection and glossiness effects. Having most of the other values the same seemed to give me the most fine control over the blended material.

The way I left it when I saved it does not have a huge amount of difference between the two versions (reflection is different for sure), but I found it was important to have it there. Some of the variants I tested before had a much larger difference in things like the reflection values and the glossiness values between the two layers, and I wanted to keep this mat very flexible for other uses later on. There is probably a more efficient way to do it all, but this is how it evolved for me with my level of understanding of Vray. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
