Here's my latest attempt at creating a tropical water scene. Had to do quite a bit of photoshopping to get it looking right but I'm fairly happy with the result.

water was a dreamscape surface with a surface underneath for the ocean floor
foreground water was rendered separately due to memory constraints
    vray sun/sky/physical cam used
    rocks were created in vue
    yacht modelled in modo
    bushes were purchased from turbosquid
palms were free from marlin studios
clouds were hand painted in photoshop

    Comments and crits welcome!

    Regards,

    Rob.

tee hee - lovely stuff mate.
Although on a first glance the water is a bit rough? Other than that lovely stuff.

Can just imagine sitting there drinking rum.

The thing that sticks out to me is the amount of smog on the horizon The sky should be clear, blue on blue

I agree with the above comments..... the ocean could use a little les choppy waves... its to rough to fit the scene well.

But oh how nice your water is.... i would love to see a setup of it.

Thanks guys, great crits as usual! I'll tone down those waves and remove the standard vray sky for a photoshopped one with less haze.

Here's the settings for the water surface....

..I thought that was just the effect of having too much rum....

Nice, reminds me of a nearby small island called "Palominito"

werticus - I think we should start a petition for 'vray tropical sky'....

rmejia - wow, you live near here? Fantastic, you're living my dream! I notice your Island is a lot flatter than mine, will have to squish mine down a bit.

I live in Puerto Rico, it's the bigger island to the left of Palomino and Palominito. To the right of PR there are a couple of very lovely British Virgin Islands. One of them, Virgin Gorda, has a beach called "The Baths" which is just amazing. Don't know if people from the UK go vacationing there ... it's a little far away from home

Maybe you could also add a couple of islands farther away in the image.

..well if all you caribbean guys have flat islands then I'll be damned if I'm going to be the odd one out!

Here's my revised image - replaced the vray sky with a dreamscape sky and toned down the waves a little. Also had a play with the bump on the water too - just to get a bit more detail in there.

Thanks ene.xis. Maybe the island is too crisp and bright. I'll try and put a little blue fog over it.
