    Image looks nice except for the skylight. Is it glass or backlit perspex? Either way it seems not to have enough "depth" like some of my architectural clients would put it. The lighting inside seems a bit too CG and you'd think that the light from outside will travel further into the seen (no matter what direction the sun is coming from)

    The floor looks very good to me. Is it seperate parts of tiles as in the colours or is it just a big bitmap? (also the wall on the right in the foreground)
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

      Nice work, agree with DVP3D, lighting needs some work.
      It looks like there is hardly any GI / light bouncing. What lighting/GI are you using?

      This scene reminds me of a project i did about 4 years ago with scanline and radiosity. A hallway with skylight and clock at entrance. Here's a frame from the video, my lighting setup wasn't ideal either, (and the uncorrected frame is oversatured), but it was the only way i could manage the entire scene to render in time back then.

      I'm interested to see your progress on this image, keep it up!

        Hi DV3PD and ruud3dv,

        Thanks for your crits and comments. Below are the settings for this image.
        The floor is seperate parts except for the part that appears tiled.

        The Skylight material is Kalwall:

        Looking forward to your feedback.
        Thanks again

          The can lights have a cylinder object set inside with a vray light mapped to them:
          Diffuse
          255
          255
          255

            Have you got affect shadows checked on in your glass material, or is it opaque?

                Fair enough, that explains why your direct shadows arent stronger.

                  When I was told that the skylight was going to be Kalwall I knew it wasn't going to make for a very high contrast and dramatic space. Does anyone think I should go with IES lights for the can lights as apposed to the vray lights?

                    Henry,
                    My suggestions:
                    -increase your GI calc;
                    -use Ies or new Vrayies lights to a better effect;
                    -add some vraylight (planes) to fill space with more light. I think you need some light on second floor...;
                    -on entrance, there is a wall outside?

                    My suggestion is to not use only the sun to light yours scene. Your kawall is like a white plane with high self illumination. I think you can try (maybe not) fake this effect and have some better diffuse shadows inside.

                    Maybe can help.

                    regards,

                      Andre,

                      Thanks for suggestions. I will give them a shot and post the results.
