  • Exterior Tipps welcome

This is my recent work with vray 1.5 SP2 and MAX2009.
Your Tipps to making the Scene better are very welcome.

I have done it with vraysky and physcam. I also put a cloudy Image in the
Reflection environment overwrite slot of vray, but the Reflection in the Glas is something strange.
The rendersettings are low at this moment (irr,lc)

    Thanks for your answers

I dont think the cam angles are that bad. Clearly its a difficult model to capture well, especially being on a slope.

My 'Tipps' to making the scene better are put a sky in. Clouds will make a big difference.
The people in the first image have very red faces. Maybe they are angry that they had to walk up such a steep driveway. Other than that, not bad.

It's a bit too clean. Need some variation in the render, tarmac etc.

overall not bad. Looks OK. Only thing that jumps out for me are those fountains. Try to use the RPC ones if you can. Otherwise just photoshop it in from reference images. If not then add some gravity and get some motion blur going there.
              I like the lighting
              Kind Regards,

                Thanks for your tipps!
I will try to do this.

                One question more:
I have done it with vraysky and physcam.
                PIC 2:
I also put a cloudy Image in the Reflection environment overwrite slot of vray, but the Reflection in the Glas is something strange. It is a lot to dark.

PIC 1: There is no Image in the Reflection overwrite.

How can i get clouds as Background with this method, or clouds for Reflection?
                Only in post?

                Thanks

looks pretty good overall to me.

Personally I would brighten the background slightly or use something with some clouds as other people have suggested although the gradient isn't too bad as it is.

I think that the building, cars etc are all great (nice job!) but possibly need a bit more work on the road/kerb/footpath. The road is a bit too dark in my opinion and tiled a bit. The kerb has too much of a hard edge and too much large texture in places and the footpath texture looks a bit blurry from the elevated rear view.

I can relate to your work because i struggle with the same things. Although i can get the building right, it is the rest (site/ foreground/finishing) that are my problem as well. Id suggest maybe trying some evermotion plants/trees/ people to use along the planting strip instead of the 2D ones and also to create a bit of a treeline in the background. Id also suggest a small photoshop adjustment (highlight and shadows maybe) to reduce the darkness on the trees. Also to bring out edges a bit more and definition of panels, try using a bit of unsharp mask in photoshop.

anyway good stuff, it just looks like finishing off and tweaking that is required

Sorry, for me those skies are awful. Although they are more interesting than the previous BGs you had, it looks like they have been quickly hand painted in PS. If you spend a few minutes on google you should be able to drop in a high res photo of a real sky with some clouds. The second image seems to just drop away in the background, as if its perched on a cliff, you could try comping in another row of trees to hide the emptiness behind those railings.

thanks, i also think you are right.
But i dont get good skies via google.
Do you know where i can buy good skies?
Is it correct that i only can put it in in post?
My backgrounds are not correct (to dark) when i put them in
the environment slot! (phys sky, phys cam)

I found loads on google but the first few pages worth were too cloudy.

Try these sites for textures/skies -

                          http://www.cgtextures.com/
http://mayang.com/textures/ (although this one is down at the mo)

I find its easier to get the results I want by doing it in post but if its coming out too dark for you in max you need to put a colour correct over the sky image and whack the brightness up i think, it'll have to go pretty high like in the 1000's or something. And play around with 'affect background' in your colour mapping rollout.

                              RedBug

                              Hi there,

I guess just a few bits and pieces will make the difference.
                              1. Some skid marks etc on the road. The color of the road should be a bit brighter kind of grey and darker skid marks.
                              2. Your flouroscent colors on the walls are a bit flat, may be give like a bump or something to get some uneven feeling.
                              3. The yellow building which I guess is to show a new block under development should atleast have similar texture like the walls of the building so that it can fit in better and not so much in the face.
                              4. The tyres on the Merc look good being greyish but other cars have totally jet bllack tyres which takes the realism away.
                              5. If possible maybe put a bg plate which will help add the realism.

                              Best of luck
                              Vik.
