  • Interior - test render

This is still a work in progress but I wondered if anyone has got any C & C's. I think the lighting is a bit flat but have been looking at it for so long I can't really tell anymore...

Its not too bad. The carpet is tiling and on my monitor the chairs are just black shapes, theres no definition.

I don't think it's the lighting so much, that seems OK although you could maybe increase a little. I agree about the chairs - what material are you using? They could do with some fall off as they don't appear to have any texture at all. IMHO the camera could maybe be moved to a better position and I'd put an image on the plasma screen using a vray light material to add a bit more interest... I tend to use the client's internet site as the image for stuff like that - they seem to like it

Hey, thanks for having a look.

I'm having a bit of a play with it at the moment to stop the tiling of the carpet. The chairs have a bump map but I haven't used fall-off off for a texture like this before, (showing my newbiness which map slot would you put it in?

Will try the client site on the plasma screen by the way, like that idea and you're probably right, trying to crow-bar two camera shots in to one makes for a lot of blank carpet in the middle.

With regards to the lighting, I am trying to train myself out of a habit of dark renders that need more post-production work so to me this scene looks really bright especially around the windows.

If you put an environment outside the window I don't think you'll have a probem with the light - it doesn't look too bright I don't think and the sun does blow out areas when it's bright. if you look at photos they read the light in that way - our eyes just adjust everything far more. Re fall off, you can use it in the diffuse map section. For your colour chairs I'd use an almost black in the top box and a pale grey in the bottom. For more control, you can use the mix curves underneath - change the keys to bezier corner by right clicking on them and create a concave curve until you just get a hint of the pale grey showing round the edges. Looking forward to seeing the updates...

Brilliant, thanks for that info. I'll get on it and update as soon as.
