  • floor darkens interior

hi, i am doing an interior and have the problem that everything gets quite dark when i change from the white- to a dark floor. what can i do to avoid the darkening of the scene by dark objects and also to avoid the color bleeding on the white walls, if i would use a red floor for example
thankful for suggestions, as i am struggeling with this for a long time.

Well it is correct, if you dont want it you can use an Override Material and use the white material as GI Material on the Floor.

    Thorsten

It's correct only if using LWF (as thorsten knows ), otherwise it's darker than it needs to be. Switching to using LWF will brighten up the dark floors and also reduce the color bleeding you describe. If you don't want to go into the whole LWF thing the overrides are your best option.

Good point, but sounded to me like he was after maintaining the exact look of the walls while changing the floormat

You can also turn on "Reflective GI caustics" to make things brighter; in this particular case they are an important secondary light source for the scene.

          Best regards,

thanks for your replies, they helped me a lot.
especially the override material to control the gi of objects is great.
i don`t use lwf as i havent got the time to go into it, i use vray sun/sky/phys cam+reinhard.
i tried the suggestion of vlado with the reflective gi caustics on. this only takes effect on the upper level, where the floor is blank white, but has no influence on the ground floor area, especialy the "tunnel" where the override material is applied to the floor. is this because i have the white material only on the gi slot of the override material, the other slots i left on default - none?

don`t blame me for the roof, it`s an existing shopping center which gets an upgrade, but unfortinately the glasroof is tabu.

to reduce colourbleed if it is a really bright colour, if you select the object and go to vray properties (right click) you can modify the "generate GI" value so that it isnt reflecting so much colour but then i guess the problem is that you are taking light out of the scene and it may get darker...which i guess is why nobody else suggested it hehe

[deleted: my stupid idea that basically does what Vray override material does anyway]

anyway to me the dark lower floor looks more realistic than the neon white. it looks like a standard material

EDIT: i guess i should have looked at the Vray override material first...man thats awesome (maybe my idea would have been ok a few years ago? lol - im still stuck in the 80's anyway)

i also worked with the vray properties to handle color bleeding, especially in interiors, before i got the tip with the override material.
might be it isn`t correct, but the aim is to get an image which is bright and friendly, to sell the design.i also made the experience that images get a lot darker when they are printed out - so a little bit too bright image generally satisfies my needs.

just finished the project. thanks to your help it`s my first interior where i am satisfied with the result. c+c welcome.
one question occured to me while i worked on that project. the aim of the concept is to get new shops into an old shoppingcenter by pepping it up. so the architect told me to put logos of well known shops on the walls, which actually are not in the shopping center. can this occure copyright problems as i used the original logos?
                    thx

Put it this way, if Starbucks put your name all over one of their adverts which then made them a lot of money, would you want a cut?

If we have to use logos such as you have we make a point of altering them slightly. For example if you use McDonalds you can photoshop the logo into McBurger or something, you get the idea.
