  • Some Images from work today

Haven't ever posted any of my work on these forums. These obviously aren't done with vray, but I thought I'd spice it up with something a little different from the ubiquitous "evermotion" render

comments always welcome, thanks for taking a look. Done with A couple render passes out of ketchup and then some dress up in photoshop.

these are good, but this section of the forum is really for images/animations rendered with Vray.

You should have lied and said you were testig some new stylized renders using vray toon renderer! As others have said: V-ray::Image uploads. Does what it says on the tin.

Maybe another sub-forum for non-vray renders?
        Kind Regards,

yeah dude, what were you thinking?

I have managed to export about 20 of these ubiquitous sketchup people to stick into Vray renderings occasionally, for laughs if nothing else. I just need to get a script that makes them automatically face the camera like in sketchup. I'm sure there is one, but haven't looked...

haha! ok ok, my bad, I'll try to align the post here a little more with the intent of the forum.

Here's a rendering that WAS done with vray, then modified quite a bit in photoshop.

            here's the original render

Ok, I'll bite. That last one looks great! I've been trying to do something like that for a client for some time now. Willing to share any info on how it was done?

I used a combination a a few different techniques. Some came up more prominent in the final and some not. I just played around with some of my favorite photoshop techniques, blending in different ways and masking out parts that didn't seem to fit.

I started with the original render. Did a wand selection of the highlight areas, made a copy, and set to screen (played with gaussian blur here to make it a bit softer and layer opacity).

Next added some RPC people and other cutout people I've got, used those as selection guides to apply a black/white gradient over the people, set that layer to overlay and then de-saturated the context behind the people a bit. Added a Stroke from the filters menu to outline the people.

To bring out some more complimentary colors and keep things warm, I applied a warming photo filter to the interior and a cooling photo filter to the exterior. Played with masks, density, and opacity till it felt right.

I used my wacom in combo with the art history brush to squiggle some of the hard edges in the geometry and also in the carpet patterns.

I added the white vignette effect around the edges, but kept that layer below my people layer to help create some depth (successful or not, you decide). The client here wanted to show this as a space where people interact, so I focused the attention on them more than I usually would have.

I then duplicated a later that was pre art-history brush pass, and applied a Photocopy filter to that layer to bring out some of the edges, then set that layer to multiply as to only bring out the black lines for the edges.

Cropping, people placement, & exterior scene were all tweaked, moved around, and added throughout the process. Also added some EZstars to the lights for the flare you see there.

As a final touch I usually add a smooth grain to everything on a duplicated later and set to around 70% opacity. I think it helps unify things.

                  an update!

Ok, I thought since I got some flack, I'd go ahead and polish up one of the first posted renders with vray

nice. they remind me of old-school (pre-3d/computer) visualisations, in marker or watercolour. nice. vray render looks great as well.

Stop using sketchup to render, this is excellent.

                        @ Clifton and anyone else,
This is the script I use to assign a lookat controller to bilboard people when I'm forced to use them. It works great. Will add or remove the controller on the Z axis only.

also, made a script of my own to generate the billboards from a folder of images. OT thread here

be warned, I'm a total nooby scripter

certainly, I used LWF and saved out as an exr and tweaked in ps from there. I'm finding I really like to have more of this control in ps afterwards with the exr instead of tweaking a bunch in the render. I think this workflow only works well for stills though.

I've also added a shot showing all the 'stuff' I added afterwards in photoshop.
