  • A couple of project WIPs

I was informed that both projects are going through serious modifications, so instead of working towards now non-existant deadlines I've moved onto other things. Anyways here are some test renders.

If anyone would like the shingle diffuse and displacement map I'll post them.

    2nd project WIP

Here's the 2nd batch of images. Wow.. they look quite darker when posted.

The detailing in your textures and modeling are great. I was really impressed with the 2nd set, the detailing in the paving. Nice lighting too.

        Displacement

great stuff. Good lighting and modeling. It seems you have some displacement issues on your brick pavers.

Hey nice. I like the first of the second set, the second one seems to have the lighting throttled a bit too much. The last image is a really fantastic way to present a massing!

Great images... the 2nd set does look a bit dark.
Please post the maps if you can! Also, any chance of telling us the material settings for the leaves on the 4th image?
              Keep up the good work.

Thanks all. Yeah, I'm still trying to find the best workflow for LWF/or not LWF and exteriors; the first set was using a gamma of 1.0 and then adjusting the image through the color mapping/color corrections until happy and the 2nd set was done using a gamma of 1.8.

*sigh* The Public Safety facility is going to give me (more) grey hairs. I put in way too many hours on it before vacation so I could render out a video the weekend I got back. All I can say is that it's fun dealing with a historical commission.

Here are the maps and the settings for the leaves; never got around to putting maps on them.

Here's a link to all the files; including the displacement map PSD and original image of the shingles.

                    Update

Here's a quick sun study, of what I've managed to get done, for the revised building addition entrance; it's a priority yet again.

Of the first set the roof tiles let them down, a lot. Very flat. Image 2 reflections are great but the forecourt doesnt look right. Image 3 is the best of the set but again its the roof. The night shot looks like you have just put a white layer behind the windows, you could lift these bright areas with a soft brush on the edges and bleed a bit of interior light outside onto the trees.
Second set are better, what is the bright white line at the base of the bollards?

ps where is new britain. i live in britain, do you eat black pudding and drink watered down beer too?

I had tried tossing a VrayDisplacementMod onto the roof, but I wasn't happy with the results vs the time it added to the render. When I get back to it I may fiddle with the reflection map and work on the displacement map more. Any suggestions?

Image 2. Hrmm, it's not the best camera angle either. Landscape indicated that they wanted "something" in the foreground and I left it at that.

Heh. Close. It's just a VrayLightMtl after I was asked to produce a quick dusk shot for the police chief.

I had the displacement map for the pavers inverted when I rendered out the 2nd set of tests; the bright line is the background.

*grin* I'm in New England. US Northeast. Central Connecticut. Nope. Just the rare Blutwurst now and then and a selection of beers from around the world, American micro brews, and anything free. Well.. almost anything free.

Ah forget trying to displace your roofs (rooves?) unless you are up super close and need the detail. It will just slow down your renders and cause more hassle than its worth. Ive done a lot of images using a real simple extruded spline and tile map. Spend a bit of time drawing a correct profile, extrude it and apply a good map, this will give you the horizontal definition with a shadow line and you can just add a bump to your tile map for the small verticals. Hope that makes sense.
Isnt Maine in New England? Home of many scary Stephen King stories.

Hrm.. that's pretty much what I have for the roof surfaces now. *sigh* I'll have to go back and play with the materials.

Yep. Maine is at the top end of New England, and the home to Stephen King; Connecticut's at the ass end.

Thanks. Me too! I have four, possibly five, projects in the works and I'd like to get them to the same level; versus getting them done just to get them done. I just hope I don't have any more surprises; design or system related. Heh. The last test animation I did ended up frying a few systems in the farm; management decided not to let me or IT know that they were killing the AC system after hours to save on costs.
