  • Perfume ad.

Here's a render done with Realflow, Max and Vray. Its for a perfume print ad (no client, just portfolio stuff) and the blue 'bottle' will be replaced with photography by the retoucher.
The render is a whopping 7000 pixels in the longest dimension and rendered in 23 minutes!
We shot the perfume in-house and then did a 'silver ball' HDRI.

Comments much appreciated, Ive got time on my hands to make changes!

    Thanks, Tom

Overall it looks very good, but I think the Realflow mesh could use a bit more refinement. It is hard to get around it, but it still has a bit of a bubbly look - maybe tweaking the mesh parameters can give you something that is just a bit more natural?

Thanks ret, I agree, but Im using the demo version which has a couple of limitations. I can only let it calculate on 2 cores for 10 minutes. Im a novice with Realflow, so any practical advice you could give to overcome the 'bubbliness' would be very welcome.

It is always hard to do - RF just does not allow for any good universal settings so you have to play. I would suggest that you try just turning on the filtering for the mesh and see what that does for you. I do not have RF with me right now so I cannot look up the proper names and I cannot remember offhand, but the two values for the mesh that are set per emitter (radius and the 'attraction' value between particles - name totally escapes me) usually need to be adapted along with the filtering. It becomes a bit of back and forth between the filtering values and these two. The other one that can make a difference is the polygon size - if you don't have enough poly's the shape will be much chunkier no matter what you do (maybe obvious, but it took me a bit to figure that out )

I really recommend the Gnomon RF training video as well. It's not very exciting to watch, but it does give a really good overview of the tools.
