I gave up on the whole gamma2.2/LWF thing a while back, but decided to give it a go for this image and was pleasantly surprised. I thought the lighting came out quite nice and was impressed by the speed of the vray ies lights. The only thing that slowed things down (considerably) was the vray fur for the carpet - might give displacement a go for the next image. I also tried brute force for the secondary bounces for the first time - think I'll use it all the time now!

Would be good to hear your crits/comments

    Regards,

    Rob.

        looks great!
only crit would be the uvw mapping of the wood on top. and bottom.

No crits at all of the image!

I like how the carpet looks with with the VRay fur, it'd be shame if you had to change it to displacement. I have found using a subdivide modifier on the carpet object set to something like 50mm really speeds up the render times for fur.

yeah, it looks like someone brushed your initials into the pile of the carpet, otherwise it's perfect!... =P

                Rob,

This looks really good. I really like your attention to detail. The only crit is, actually, not to the image but for your heavy use of watermarking all over the image. I needed some time to adjust to the ones in the middle and on the ceiling. Great lighting and textures.
BTW, what is the thing on top of the side doors? I couldn't figure out what's happening there?
                Keep up the good work

Thanks for the good comments guys! Sorry for the slow webserver.. that ones a bit out of my control. Hope it was worth the wait!

UV mapping is not my strongest point, so I'll have to put some serious effort in and take a look at that wood.

Will play around with the vray fur a bit more too. Thanks for the tip!

The side doors are meant to be a partially sanded/polished painted wood - some parts reflective, some parts rough. Guess I need to work on that one more!

So, you guys don't like my watermarking huh!? A necessary evil though.. unfortunately.

Now thats a big yacht. Looks good Rob

One thing I did notice was the wood floor planks particularly in the bottom right hand corner look a little wierd, the highlights give the impression that the floor is a quite uneven - don't know whether this is intentional or not.

                          Thanks guys!

The flooring is meant to be even all the way across (apart from the grooves of course), not quite too sure what's happened there - it could be the bump map fighting with the modelled-in grooves. I tried to line them up the best I could.

Very nice image indeed. The lighting is spot on !

Would you be able to share your lightcache/brute force settings please...also very interested to know what time this render took.
                            Regards

                              Thanks!

Didn't use lightcache for this one, settings were -

Primary - irradiance map, medium setting, sample lookup - overlapping, detail enhancement 2mm
Secondary - brute force, 5 bounces

Rendered at 3k x 1.5k and took about 8hrs over 16 processors. Would have been about 3 hrs but that vray furry carpet killed the render time. Although thinking about it, 8hrs isn't too bad!
