  • Modeling and Lighting study

Some thing i do from time to time - pick an interior space an model it for lighting and textureing to practice.

this is casa em lousado by Correia Ragazzi. only one view for now (still playing with it), maybe more if i'll have more time to put on this.

    3 things though to notice.
    ----
    1. the background in the render was pasted in from the original, some editing needed since the photo match was not spot on.
    2. some color corrections were made to look more like the original... playing with white balance in the rendering didn't do all the work (and PS is much faster in work flow)
    3. in the original one can see reflective caustics on the wall top right out side the glass - i did not enable this in the render since it populates all the image with white dots.

also i'm not sure that the light on the concrete slab over there is due to just reflective caustics, even though direct light is not possible for this sun angle...

    cheers.

            very nice match!

some minor details: the wood on the ceiling in the foreground is a little thicker in the original, and i just think the wood in the render is a notch red than it should.

other then that i commonly see this wooden floor with bump grains an gaps which is wrong imo. The polishing makes it a flat surface and the varnish might just make the gaps a little more visible.

            ps. i know the photographer

Thanks for the comments... i'll put these in the next round.

was it Alberto or Luis who took that one ? they did great work on this house.

              Cheers

                  very nicely done.
in the original photo, there is some shading on the outer facade of the building. like a triangular shade.

some more very minor things that caught my eye (well, seeing as its nearly perfect!):

The white render on the walls seems to be slightly too reflective (its taking on too much blue from the sky outside)

The external timber could do with being a tad more reflective (this time, it needs more blue from the sky)

Maybe you could turn on vray DOF, to make the things that are very close slightly blurred (like in the photo)

Agree with ene.xis about the floor too, I always paint a new bump map for these arroway textures - just the gaps.

You've inspired me to post one of my photo-matching efforts..

                        this is excellent,
one really minor thing I noticed:

The wood walls in the photo are reflecting the trees and grasses outside which you can't see - in the render you can't see the reflected greens in the wood (probably because you have just added the background as a matte?) could you just fudge it by placing the background on a plane in max and mirror-ing it to the sides so the wood walls could reflect some similar greens?

Other than that, the walls are too reflective as Peter points out.

But it's pretty bloody close! Really good work man.
