  • REDVERTEX vs. Alex Roman

This is our 1st post here on ChaosGroup Forum.
A FREE of charge job inspired by the masterpieces of the famous artist Alex Roman.
The architecture is from dutch architect Rem Koolhaas. The project name is Rem Koolhaas Bordeaux House.
This is not a challange or some kind of fight
This is just a test for our capabilities. It's somehow a self-fulfilment.
We tried our best. This is the best possible finish for the very successful 2008 year for us.
It was all possible because of our oustanding 3D artists: Dimitar Tilev, Dimitar Bajalcaliev, Dian shishkov!
Special thanks to ChaosGroup Team !!!

Its excellent work. But doesnt it seems like a bit waste of effort to do all this just to emulate another persons achievements? The thing that I found really charming about the original works was not just the technical acheivment, which was obviously substantial, but mainly the composition and 'newness' of the work. I hant seen anything like it before......which is exactly the point. We have seen this before.
I dont want to diminish what you've done, because it really is good work. I just think that it may be a mis-guided effort.
The other concern I have, is that this will surely sit inyour portfolio. Potential clients will not be familiar with the originals.....

Wow but i have to agree why??

This work is truely amazing work but i do have to agree with Tommy L, why imitate whats already been achieved.

You are clearly talented guys by the level of finish of these images and the technical knowledge is blatantly there. So it does seem like an obvious question as to why didn't you compose your own images and style.

That aside they are immaculately imitated, so for that a massive congratulations and they will wow many potential future clients i'm sure.

            Cheers

very nice work indeed. I like the water stain marks you have around the holes on the facade. Is your grass vrayfur or displacement (prior to editing in PS)?

Few more words about this work.

About useing someone else images for reference. You never know what you can do if you don't try it to the limits. Lot's of people talking, but only few of them know. We just tried ourselfs.
We've got the quality and we've got the passion, thats why we make it.
                Otherwise its every day business.
Also Alex Roman (3Seventh) used images (pictures) for reference.
Tom Jones, Frank Sinatra and many more sings all the same songs
We will launch our new web site with a brand new portfolio full with lots of other interesting things.

About the grass: It's displacement with high subdivisions. In the second week of January we will post a "Making of" this scene. It will be on few web sites and I'll post it here too.

This is very good work but this is just copy of Alex`s ideas, This is nice but Alex found good technique, style and I think this is very important.
Basically I` like your work is good and very realistic but now I wait for Yours "true" visual

I like the reference to the musician, good point well made.

I dont think there is any negitaive critasism towards your work i guess for me i just feel if you guys can produce images of this quality i can't wait to see your own "showcase" images.

Sounds like exciting times are coming ahead

                    Cheers

Excellent work guys. I've not seen Alex's work, so I don't know how close to the originals these are. But either way, there's nothing wrong with imitating someone's work as long as you give credit to the original artist, which you've done. Other people may think it's a waste of time, but if it's a valuable experience for you, nothing's wasted.

Keep up the good work, and I'll look forward to seeing more.

Common guys ! Why to post things like Alex Roman did it and he did it first ... guys from Redvertex said they used it as reference to try their abilities and they obviously succeded. There is nothing wrong about to train yourself this way and actually Redvertxe guys have full conformity of their personalities that that said along with the pictures that the work was inspired by such artist (Alex Roman). There are tons of other people, even your CG gods who started by "immitating" of others work even without saying that it is not their idea.
We all know how hard is to achieve this fine look and I would suggest to all who are trying to "teach" Redvertex for not original work and waste of time to look into their own portfolios and value their own work.
These guys from Bulgraria seems very nice and talented and I am sure it is just matter of time when they show us their own style and way. People are doing this type tests to brush their skills and only people who don't struggle technically can let their mind flow in new unexpected artistic ways.
So I just wanted to say if you want to help you should point issues in composition, usage of DOF, etc but not to try mentor anyone that he did something other artist created before.
just a note: when all were crazy about Saluto's lighting style and try to achieve the same look - nobody here said - stop to immitate .... it is the same situation ... only difference is that Alex Roman's work is so inspiring and not usual.

So from me - those Redvertex guys are on very good way to be great artists and they will find their way for sure - and for others who are trying everyday to be better - don't be ashame to use someones elses work as reference - it is all about practice as long as you fairly say you used this and that artists work as an inspiration.

                        Happy holidays to all !

Great job. Alex Roman is one of the best architectural artists I have ever seen. And it's funny that I see this posting today because I am right in the middle of a project now where I am drawing huge inspiration from this same exact set of renderings. The way in which he uses Onyx Tree is truly amazing, as are the rest of his techniques and his insight into the soul of an architectural piece.

My style in post production is not the same as his, but if I can learn to do some of the things he's been able to accomplish and incorporate it into my work, then I will be 100% better off.

So congrats to Redvertex for this outstanding effort, and I'm sure you all have learned a lot along the way.

To understand such a unique style well enough to imitate it this well deserves a complement in itself. Very nice work!

We all use conglomerations of the techniques that others used first. Doesn't matter if you learned your profession from a school, a book, or your peers...your style, no matter how original you believe it to be, is simply a product of your influences.
