  • How to make this material?

I've created this room to work on my realism. I have many things to add/change/fix in it still. For example the pot lighting has to go, the floor pot is silly, and the repeating texture within all the picture frames is ridiculous...

I'm open to critiques but I'm mainly wondering how to make a decent marbled glass for the lamp on the table. I attached a photo to get some opinions. (I even searched the V-Ray material site even but didn't have any luck).

Part of the problem I'm having creating it is because I don't know if the surface should have a thickness... I assume it's slightly refractive?

One other question... does it look like the lounge chair has a glow where the pillow is touching it? I can't think of any idea why that looks that way. It's a simple bitmap material with a slight reflection on the strips of the fabric.

    Thanks for the help.

    J.

About the first question, the easiest way is to use a VRay2Sided material. look here for examples: http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150S...vray2sided.htm
You can do it using subsurface scattering as well but Vray2Sided materials are much faster.

About the second question, it looks to me like reflective GI caustics. it happens when the light reflects off bright objects and shines onto other bright objects. you can control this globaly in the VRay settings or by material by using the material settings or an Override material.

Woo Hoo! Thanks, didn't even think of looking there.

Here is my trial, I think it worked out.
