I'm trying to expand my portfolio a bit by including some non-mental ray renders. As usual with me & vehicles, the mesh was provided by someone else.

VRay materials (naturally) and I lit the scene with my own panoramic HDR image and matching back plate. At a tick over 4k resolution my panoramic HDR's just aren't cutting it for large renders (notice the stretched environment reflections on the paint). Guess I'll have to try some wide angle lenses instead of my fisheye so I can create higher resolution HDR's.

FWIW, here's a small preview of the environment HDR:

    Very nice work m8

i also started creatig my own HDRI images, i use a cannon 400D, but also have problems with the resolution of the HDRI.

Btw how did you light the scene (did you put the HDRI in a vraylight (wich is set to dome) ?

      V-ray light

Since you mentioned the v-ray dome light I have a question. How can you preview your HDRI so you can rotate it into position as a dome light? In an env you can set your background to see it, but I seem to get better results with a v-ray dome light, but I can't see it to position it.

Thanks. Yes, I did use a VRay dome light.

Looks good Jeff - nice level of realism.

Glorybound: you can do it if you instance the map to your environment slot and the Vraylight. Rotating/panning in the viewport does not provide realtime updates, you have to refresh it manually, but if you rotate the map using the controls (I use the VrayHDRI to load them and to get vertical rotation) then you can see it update in the viewport as you spin the dial.

Looks good Pixelperfect.. especially the blue, it's by far the best one. and you'r right about the resolution, it has to big quite high to reflect correctly on flat surfaces.

Glorybound, for rotation you can watch this, a small vidtut I did. http://www.hdri-locations.com/vidtut...ple_setup.html

I like the blue and the red, the yellow one in front I think would look nicer if it had more reflections. Nice work

Thank you. The blue version is my favorite as well.

Thank you. Totally agree, I'm fairly certain that I had borked my reflectivity amount on that yellow material and so the fresnel effect didn't have much to work with. It also doesn't help that there isn't much but an overcast sky and empty parking lot for it to reflect at that facing angle. :/
