I have no time now for playing a lot with but i'll find freetime for indepth experiments . I find VrayEnviromentFog amazing well-implemented feature!
Here, an example. Fog pass is overrired black mat. It let me much more control in GI bounces, speed and color correction terms for compositing purposes. I realize that it's a bit tricky but it works for me by now...
PS: Note that sunrays come only from HDR importance sampling

so you make a render with override black, and then you comp with the render in photoshop ? i'm not familiar with thos comp methods , but they seem very effective.
do you simply use a layer mode in photoshop ? which one ?(add, screen...)
Werticus, yes I'd be happy to share the scene, I'll upload it on Monday when I get back to my 'puter. As well as taking ages, it's a real bugger to render with anything other than the universal method, I'd love to see if anyone can nail it

That's quite a change! Could you elaborate a little on the steps to arrive at the final image? The final image looks very nice!
