Some recent work, onyx fun

Long time no post,

Had some fun recently with onyx tree imports, no special tweaking on the meshes, only a 2sided mat for the leaves. I think this technique must be improved, but result are already convincing

GReat Job! i like the interior one, i raelly need to get myself the onyx collection im always lacking landscape i just cant afford it right now...hehehe....but grats on the image it has a subtle look to it.

yeah, OSB texture is good but wood always comes in panels/pieces, the way is rendered here seems too much like a wallpaper; I would add for sure some geometry to force it to be more real

hehe, I completely agree on this. I've asked client how they divide into panel and the answer was.... hmmm, let's not divide in the images

Thanks fo the comments, I'll post the texture & material on my blog today, nothing fancy, just a cgtexture tweaked to be tiled and some reflexion glossiness

Nice images - there is a certain calmness to them. I like the last one the best.

How are you liking Onyx? I am using GrowFX (which I love) but have been thinking about getting Onyx as well. GrowFX is great because it's so open-ended but I like the idea of having a ready-to-go library of trees to customize as well.

I like onyx even I've not tweaked much the trees. interface is a bit old school and the tree library should be more complete... beside that, the new plate feature allow you to make very realistic leaves. Not tried yet.

Render time for the first image was something like 1 hour on a biXeon E5420 (8 cores) for a 3000x1500 pixels image in universal method 0.01 DMC thresold. Trees are of course proxies.
