If you went with vray sphere lights thats probably what I would do as well. One thing i've found is if they are too high in the rooms then it draws too much attention to the ceilings.

I did one recently and used linear multiply colourmapping to get more out of the internal lights. Also remember that things will change internally when you change the lighting externally.I think it is best to have the photo from the start so you can get things like the environmental lighting set up to be close without it changing the look of your interiors later on (if that makes any sense).

Maybe its worth putting some more lights on and blinds or something so avoid getting the empty room look

Funny thing about evening images is that you dont have to make the externals 'black' for it to fit into the site photo and i think it looks better if the 3D portion is receiving slightly more light than it should be in reality.

      Anyway good luck

I'd grab a couple different types of night photos online and show them to your client to get a feel for what they like. In reality, a night photo dictates that the shutter is open extra long to allow the light in. If you show any dark areas slightly illuminated, that means any bright areas will be completely blown out. So those interior spaces will basically just be glowing... you probably won't even be able to discern ceiling from wall, or maybe even see any kind of decorative details.

I went about this approach recently with a client and they didn't like it! Too bright! As you know it takes a lot of time to set up all the lights and render out the tests. If you get your clients opinion first, it might save you a lot of time.
