does this option work with vray proxies? IMO that would be crucial for a realistic forest. i think vray scatter can do that.
Yes. It works with all type of objects and proxies.

The only requirement is to inherit your materials from "Forest Material" plugin. You can use all type of materials as base, including VRay native types.

Are there any plans to add some kind of fancy sprite shading to billboard trees, like what's available in games and Afterburn, etc.?

Not for the moment. Most of these shaders, as Normal mapping, requires a 3D object to pre-process data from it. But if you have the object, is better to render it directly instead using a billboard.

Well it depends. It would surely be a lot faster as billboards, and is satisfactory for a lot of background work.

I love it! Don't suppose you rendered it in HD did you?

the last frames were still well under 20 minutes so I probably shouldve tbh...

Very nice animation....did you use IRmap and LC with camera path?

something that really makes FP an excellent product is the customer support, Carlos really makes a good effort to resolve every problem rightaway!!

                      Haha, I wish I could!

It's IRmap and brute force - I assumed with the way that light cache works that it wouldnt be possible to use it on stuff like this. But I never tested it, so I might be wrong.

                            Thanks! It's adaptive dmc, 1,10.

Theres a slight bit of noise on the raw render but it's hardly noticable after a bit of post and compression.

i just tried to get forest lite running with DR...

                              no success.
i copied the forstlite dlo to all render nodes. is network rendering even supported with forest lite?
