we have had a couple of students get through visuals through us as well and personally I dont understand it. Its kind of like if they got an experienced draftie to do the drawings for them - isnt part of the whole thing to be able to do it yourself?

I found that the students didnt understand the amount of work involved and tried to push their luck regarding what they got and how much they could pay. Do it yourselved goddamn it!. I mean they are studying to learn and these days doing 3D is almost an essential part of Architecture.

Anyway good images but i bet you were a bit limited in terms of time allocated - 1 week isnt a lot of time.

I don't understand it either. Our company shares space with an architecture firm (separate companies) and all the architects can use sketchup. They learned it very quickly and it does the job for what they need. When they need something more, then use us.

Why couldn't a student learn basic 3d then?! Surely since architects are designing 3d spaces, having 3d skills would be something they'd want to learn themselves, rather than ship it off to someone else? Before I'm slated, I mean 3d skills to a level of something around sketchup - not polished, photoreal renders. I wouldn't expect any architect to be putting out the same work as a dedicated visualisation studio.

We will rarely do work for students, I can think of maybe only once in five years. They just aren't economically viable

I would have to agree that students aren't really economically viable, but they do allow us to work on some really interesting projects, rather than just a standard housing block or office suite.

So we weigh the price point with the different type of work that these students bring in.
