Thanks z1pp3r - maybe when the project is done It's really about the maps anyway, the materials are just VrayMats and VrayBlendMats.

Savio: these images are not raw renders and most use displacement. The RT renders were not a match to these images, but were matched to steps in the process.

Attached is a quick RT and Vray render of the last one, but right now I don't have time to go back and re-render etc to create useful comparisons. You'll have to experiment on your own

Did I understand this correct, the RT images didn't match what came out of the VFB? Wonderful work by the way.

The RT renders were excellent guides but because almost all the mats use displacement it could not be exact. I was also making it clear that posted RT renders wouldn't match these because I had done post work on all of them.

RT was hugely useful in developing the details of my mats.

                      Thanks for the kind words

                          2 More

Thanks Steve. I have been working with RT in some capacity for about a year now, but the release version has been awesome. I use it constantly.

Here are two more pics. Hammered silver, old steel, and aged oak for the box. I've been working a lot with 3D Coat lately and have used it extensively for texture painting. Also a fantastic program.

These are by far the best materials I have ever seen. You really know what you are doing and you have a very smart eye for all the little details.

Thank you. I am really pushing for new realism levels and have been very happy with the level we're hitting on this stuff.

I don't really have that much of a consistent workflow really, so not much to share. My advice would be create maps for everything, minimize non "realistic" parameters (always use real reflections etc.) and create a lot of custom maps.

Probably the most key would be mapping reflection and reflection gloss, even just slightly (mixing a map in at low percentage etc.). This goes a long way to bringing up subtle realism.

Other than that the biggest thing IMO is having a tool like RT which allows me to play with the variables across a much broader range in much less time. It makes tweaking so much more practical, and fun.

Having a program like 3DCoat to make texture painting smooth and easy is also a huge bonus. (I know Bodypaint can do it but I always found it clunky and limiting for myself, and Zbrush was also problematic for me. 3DC is far easier - although I only use it for painting so far - and way cheaper too.). I am making heavy use of it on these images.
