Superb! Would like to see a boat or something on it for some scale, also some dynamic camera movement, as if you're there. Splashing on the lens e.t.c. Maybe some lightning.

This is spot on, came out really well. How was it to set up?

The ocean surface geometry and movement is setup with dreamscape plugin. For this particular setup there is used a lot of choppyness to the detail wave spectrums - and a sinus wave modifier (simplewave) for the large rolling swells.

Dreamscape foam is used as mask for photo of ocean foam texture map and opacity.

Lots of fog (w/animated noise map), particles w/motion blur for rain (hard to see rain in this compressed version), blue gradient as light/reflection environment.

This was just a test of the ocean motion and look and feel... The setup was later used in a oil-rig animation.

Here is a relatively hi-res frame + material settings. As I mentioned below - the foam texture is masked in with dreamscape foam as mask - both in diffuse and refraction slot (the last so that the sea is not transparent were there is foam).

I will use procedural foam texture next time (this is an older project)...
