yep - looks like a tiny weeny mini model to me. If that is what you aimed for, well done.

DOF was done in post , i cracked up the blurring to hide many inperfection & to just show a certain area .

had alot of problem with trees & vegetation they were not looking real , so blurring them worked for me

Use VRay DOF as a guild

            Hi,

Regarding the DOF [that is unrealistic & making everything look miniature]

I understand that a lot of people want to use DOF as a post effect but by doing this you have no way of knowing if it is realistic or not.

As a guild you can use a low res & low sample/quality render using VRay Physcam so you know how much DOF you should have.

With a wide angle lens over the distance you are using, you wouldn't get much DOF at all. Heavy DOF only occurs with a narrow FOV, extremely low F-stops or close-ups.
As the Physcam DOF is physically correct I would always suggest using it as a guild even if it's not in the final render.

            Hope this helps
            Jamie

unless you are on a large format camera, where a normal or even a wide angle at f22 still doesn't have everything in focus

Thanks for the extra info as my knowledge of cameras is limited to certain basics. I had a look at your photography site & you certainly know your stuff...great photos!

How would you set up VRay Physcam to replicate a large format camera??? [is it the Film Gate??]

& will VRay physcam give the same results if setup this way???

Also is there any way to know how much distortion there is with different lens sizes. [Such as a really wide angle or fish-eye style]?? I have always noticed the large distortion/bending in fish-eye lenses ....but how to know what value the distortion of VRay physcam should have?????

                Thanks for your time

                Cheers
                Jamie

yea, to replicate the DOF of a large format camera, you could put in a much larger film gate. 36mm is the width of the film, so for a large format, you would put in something like 250mm for an 8x10 camera. Not sure how Vray would handle that though, but in theory it should work And then for a "normal" focal length (like 50mm on a standard 35mm camera) you would use somewhere around a 360mm focal length.
