Modelled in TopMod, rendered with Vray with a touch of some SSS2 lovin...
Piece done for a local art exhibition called 'Sample'

The SSS looks great there, but I'm having trouble seeing the mobius piece. The letters are covering up a good portion of it. Could you make a rendering close up/inside the mobius strip so we can see some more detail?

what do you think of top mod sv? our local 3d user group recently met with some of the developers who were seeking feedback on the program. seems like it still has a long way to go.

well, I actually did this in TopMod 1 - the free version (developed at a university I believe?) I tried topmod2 initially, and although it is nicer to work with, better ui etc, it is as buggy as hell - and it looked like it wasn't updated much which is why i went back to v1 as this seemed more stable.
however, it's f*cking cool; I really like it. All the different ways of subdividing stuff is just great. However, it's obviously still got a long way to go - max's turbo smooth is just lightning fast compared to TopMod, but then you don't have all the different algorithms in Max that TopMod has....
I hope they carry on developing it; great potential. Paracloud looks amazing as well; although a lot more complex.

which 3d user group was it?

that was one of my points was well. the smoothing was incredibly slow. it is being developed at the university of texas at austin. the woman taking notes on our feedback was Claudia Chittim McFarland, a usability analyst working on the project. i'm sure she would love to hear from you. cchittim@utexas.edu

the 3D group is called AAUGA (audodesk animation user group association) its pronounced like the sound an old fashioned car horn makes www.3daustin.org

are you a part of the london 3d user group? if so you do you know larry kleinkemper?
