Congratulations, I enjoyed the read very much. Thanks for sharing. It was great to get to know your studio a bit

I had one question, what exactly is a visually verified montage?

Is everything is modeled from a site survey and accurate camera location and information is tracked and a camera match is done? I guess I'm curious to what extent the visually verified images are dialed in and what information is incorporated to generate them.

                Thanks!

...Do you mean the photograph, or the renders?

Thats pretty much it - we get some drawings which are signed off and everyone agrees thats the standard, model it as accurately as possible and position it within a grid we get from site surveys and gps refrence points.
I've not done any myself - it's a little stress heavy. One tiny little mistake could be a major deal.

Thanks for the comments! Forwarded the thread to the rest of the office

The photograph. The lighting is in front of the building and may be removed, and the picture is a bit streched horizontally (noticable in car and panels)

Personally, I would have taken a picture with the same light (which is great) but 2/3 meters left (on the edge of the road) to push the existing light post and the red rails on the left of the foreground.

But that's minor, the still is great !

I have some questions about this because there was a time when I was asked to do some work like that and I refused the work. I felt that I would be liable and I didn't have any insurance and with the data I had I didn't think it would be possible to be accurate enough. The project was to show the roof line through some forested area. I think I could have been close but I realized that I couldn't paint out the the trees accurately. They were planning to remove 5 (e) trees but there was no way to tell from the photo of the tree line which one was which. Anyway how do you guys deal with the liability issues?

The liability issues/legal side has always been handled by our clients I think - we just make sure we do it right and nothing has come back on us.
Saying that, I dont know what paperwork my boss signs and I doubt he'd tell me if I asked anyway.

Pixelab - the position was chosen by the client from everything the photographer took, so thats pretty much out of our hands. Although I dont know what you mean about stretching - we always use the raw photos and dont alter them at all (unless the site is actually changing)
